Five years ago, Paul and Jessica’s chance encounter on Facebook marked the beginning of their fairytale. As they conversed effortlessly, their shared values and interests blossomed into a strong friendship that eventually evolved into a romantic partnership. From high school student Jessica preparing to take her HSC exams to entrepreneur Paul juggling his family business with university studies, the couple grew together, their bond strengthening as they navigated life’s challenges.
The convergence of their Middle-Eastern families’ morals and values was seamless, with Paul respecting Jessica’s family rule of not dating in high school, waiting until she finished her HSC before asking her father for permission to be his girlfriend – previously, their parents considered them ‘special friends’. As they pursued higher education at the same university, the couple motivated each other to complete their degrees and dreamt of a future together.
Throughout their four-year courtship, they faced numerous obstacles including family losses, illness, and unexpected events, but their unwavering resilience as a couple only solidified their love and support for one another.
The Proposal
On Valentine’s Day in 2018, Paul orchestrated an unforgettable romantic gesture by proposing to Jessica in a dazzling display of love and surprise. As they strolled through Sydney’s bustling Pitt Street Mall, the atmosphere suddenly transformed into a vibrant celebration. The street was adorned with decorations for Chinese New Year, setting the tone for a momentous occasion.
With flowers in hand, Paul got down on one knee as a saxophonist began to play and 10 skilled Lebanese drummers from Zaffet Lebnan materialized around them, filling the air with rhythmic beats. This extraordinary flash mob proposal was a testament to Paul’s creativity and devotion, leaving Jessica with an indelible memory.
The Wedding
As soon as we partnered with Event Stylist and Coordinator Events by Mia, our dream wedding began taking shape. With their expertise guiding us through every aspect of the planning process, we felt confident that our special day would be nothing short of exceptional. As a first-time groom in his family and the youngest sibling in my family, I was eager to make sure our celebration exceeded expectations. And exceed them it did!
Our 514 guests were truly impressed by the stunning renovations at Miramare Gardens, which added an extra layer of sophistication to an already unforgettable experience. Even the smallest details, like the canapés, received top-notch attention from Mia and her team, ensuring that every moment was filled with joy and wonder.
Unique Elements
As we embarked on planning our Middle Eastern wedding, Paul and I prioritized incorporating personal touches that reflected our love for comfort, food, and celebration. We spared no detail in curating a menu that would delight our guests, featuring a Burger Head truck and Gelato Bliss cones served as a late-night snack. Each guest received a burger token with their champagne flute, allowing them to indulge in the gardens. This unique experience was one of our favorite moments from the night.
In keeping with our theme of comfort, we decided to change into ‘going away’ outfits before departing the reception – customized tracksuits with our wedding date and new family name. These thoughtful details made our special day all the more memorable. Throughout the planning process, we emphasized choosing elements that resonated with us, which wasn’t always easy, but it was essential in creating an authentic celebration that reflected our love story.
